Exploring the Spirituality of Communion

Recently Ms Jill Gibbs and Fr Michael Fallon offered to some neighbouring parishes in the Maitland –Newcastle Diocese a new series of weekly experiences on aspects of the spirituality of communion and its implications. Six topics were covered. These were: God’s Plan and the World’s Deepest Yearnings; Faith, Hope and Charity as the style of Life of Christ’s Church; Communication as Word and Silence; Participation and Co-responsibility; Prayer and Unity of Life; Communion as Mission and Commitment.

Jill and Michael were delighted by the enthusiasm of the participants and by the way they entered into the experience so whole heartedly. Here is a representative selection of the participants’ comments given at the end of the community retreats:

"Growing up we were not encouraged to read the Bible so it is enlightening to read and discuss the Bible passages. Thank you."
The sessions were presented in a very easily understandable way. The input from the attendees was great. It made us think about the ‘differences’ and how to grow together in ‘community’ although our stories are so diverse. It gave me food for thought for the whole week! Jill and Fr Michael were inspiring leaders!
It is always helpful to explore our faith together. This has been a lovely few weeks to talk together, to work together and help one another. I hope we can follow up with more sessions. Thank you for your patience and insightfulness.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity once more of being aware of my part in the community and of the responsibility we have to practice our faith, hope and charity within the parish so that we may help to revitalize it.
Thank you very much for the well planned spirituality talks. The understanding was great. It was good to combine people from parts of the parish and to bring them together.
It has been a very good learning experience for me, a new understanding of many aspects of spirituality and communion. It has helped me understand much better my role in the church as a member of the Body of Christ. I look forward to more enlightenment.
It has been very informative, uplifting and given a vision of the future.
